How does the adjustable sole plate on the R11 driver open or close the face?
It allows golfers to change the face angle of the R11 (from two degrees closed to two degrees open) without changing the loft. In the past, face angle adjustments also affected the loft. No longer, this simple changeable protrusion or “bumper” in the sole does the work. You set it, ground your club (no hovering or your bumper won't come into play) take your grip and swing away. All that plate does is angle the whole club while it's on the ground. You then grip the club while it's being grounded to achieve the square, shut or open position. You can do the same by twisting the club in your hand, but that wouldn't have allowed them the gimmick of the plate or the new acronym to signify the ground breaking piece of technology.
