Is it illegal to make a custom fiberglass body for your car in Oregon?
Soon sometime this year I want to make a entire custom fiberglass body for my 1969 classic VW beetle, I have all the specs done and in Rhino3D so it's all planed. I was shooting for a "GT Style" body. I'm just concerned if there are any laws in Oregon(Multnomah County) that would keep or limit me from doing this.
-Thanks guys!
As long as you fabricate the body to DOT specs you should be okay. If you do the job right nobody will be able to tell the difference. However, if you're worried about fiberglass bodies on the road, look and see how many Corvettes are registered in Oregon, and in particular, your county. Also, look and see how many body shops there are, and you will get your answer. Check with a reputable body shop in Multnomah County and ask them if it's legal. I'll bet that it is legal, so you should be okay.
