Driving Test Secrets. How to pass your driving test quickly, secrets revealed by a driving instructor !!!

Driving Test, Secrets?

Now I'm not trying to suggest for a minute that that you will pass your test in ten one hour lessons, although theoretically it could be done.

As a Driving Instructor I very often get asked "how long will it take to pass my test?" and they all want to hear about 10 or 20 lessons, in the real world I know most people will need about 40 to 60 hours of training, they will have to be told this diplomatically with an explanation of what they have to be able to do in order to pass a driving test.

If you think about how complex and busy our road systems are, it's no wonder it takes 40 to 60 hours training, then you have to master four manoeuvres -

1.  Turn in the road.
2.  Left reverse.
3.  Parallel parking.
4.  Bay parking.

I have had some of my clients be at a test standard at about twenty hours of tuition, I don't teach them any differently to the ones who take longer but I will try different techniques as most instructors will until we start to make progress, but there's still a difference.

So what is the difference? between the person who passes quickly and the one's who take longer.

I must say before we go any further that everyone learns at different paces, some people will naturally take longer others will pick it up easily, but you can shave time off your lessons.  (If you were the one who was going to take 60 hours you might do it in 40 and so on).

Usually the person that picks it up quickly will wake up thinking about driving, go to sleep thinking about driving and in-between are driving or reading about driving.

They have been around people who drive most of their life and take an interest in watching what they do when driving.

They want to be in the driving seat so much that all their effort is put into this project, PASSING THE DRIVING TEST.

At the other end of the scale and I see this a lot myself as a driving instructor, people do their lesson and that's it for another week.  Just turning up for the lesson and then switching off isn't enough, what happened to the highway code?  the driving essential skills and all the other material available these day's.

You have to be prepared to put more effort into learning to get the results.

So what can you do to pass quicker?

Well keep having regular lessons with an approved driving instructor and if possible extra driving with parents, partner or family and friends, although not always possible to do the extra driving out of normal lessons because of time or money, (it isn't essential but can help).

Reading about the subject will help immensely, one of the best books someone learning to drive can use is, "The Essential Skills" by the Driving Standards Agency, which is written by the people who test you, so it can't be far wrong.

In this book nearly everything is covered that you will be taught by an instructor, the more you read and understand the easier it will be for you when having your lesson.

I used to read it nearly every night when I was learning to drive many many years ago, I remember my instructor saying once "I think you've swallowed the book".  I passed first time after about 25 or 30 lessons hard to remember exactly how many as it was so long ago.

Now from a Driving Instructor's point of view you can tell which clients will do well, they are usually very keen to learn, listen very carefully so as not to miss vital information, ask questions if they don't understand, read up on the subjects we are covering in the lessons and can't wait for the next lesson, they are usually waiting on the door step when you turn up they are that keen.

So to increase your chances of passing your test quicker and with fewer lessons, study at home, pay attention to everything your instructor tells you during lessons and the rest should fall into place.
