Is Eating And Driving A Smart Idea?
Most driving offences that police get involved in are highly contentious, speeding tickets and warnings are often met with cries from the public of: Don't you have better things to do. This is a fair point and in a climate of cutbacks, a reduction in the number of Police on the roads doesn't seem like such a bad thing. Surely their resources would be better pooled searching for missing people. Or solving serious crimes.
One of the so-called offences that people get understandably irate about is being reprimanded for eating or drinking while at the wheel. By law, both hands should be on the wheel of yourcontract hire car at all times, of course this is not always practical, a driver can be in perfect control of his or her vehicle with just one hand on the wheel. So what is the problem with eating?
It is very different from using a mobile phone, this is understandably a distracting task which diverts some of your attention away from driving, this is not that case when eating however, the time it takes to remove your hands from the wheel and pop something in your mouth or take a swig is less than the time it takes to glance in the rear view
I don't see the problem, and neither do others, we are constantly being told that we should be in a fit state to drive, not tired or drowsy, surely hunger is a precursor to tiredness and distraction and it would be better to grab a snack and eat it on the road than drive dizzy and unfocused in yourFord Fiesta.
Inconsistency is also an issue here what are we supposed to know what to do when some forces let people off for seemingly noshing down on a 3 three course meal while driving their 18 wheeler and others are pulled up for eating a cereal barBMW X6. Even if eating is indeed outlawed, fair, consistent rules should apply across the board.
