How to separate iron, gold, platinum and palladium from a mixture?
thanks
Iron can be removed by using a magnet.
Palladium dissolves in nitric acid, which gold and platinum do not. It can be reduced back to the free metal using more active metals such as zinc.
Gold and platinum both dissolve in aqua regia. Gold is precipitated however when iron(II) chloride is added, whereas ammonium chloroplatinate can be removed using ammonium chloride (Again, it can be reduced to the metal with a more active metal.)
