A lot of people search the classifieds for used cars but can get quite confused about what they are actually reading. - It is important that you know what the abbreviations actually stand for. There are many abbreviations which are used including; CL central locking, EW electric windows, EM electric mirrors, SR sunroof, ABS Anti-locking brake system, LTHR leather, TINT tinted windows, OFR offer and ONO or nearest offer.
- When reading ads for used cars you will need to work out what type of condition it is currently in. Abbreviations will more than likely be used here too including the following: G COND good condition, EX COND excellent condition or CLN clean.
- There should also be information in the ad relating to the mileage on the car and the year it was made.
- If you are looking in the classifieds for a used car you will usually see a price there too but don't worry about this being the final price. If you see OBO or OFR then you can take this as a sign that you will be allowed to haggle a bit. But there is always the fear that someone could offer a larger amount of money than you and you could lose the car.
So if you are going to look in the classified section of the local newspaper then you must really know what the abbreviations are and be able to read the ads. You should be prepared to be faced with a barrage of abbreviations when you read the classifieds and get the hang of understanding them especially as many people just make up their own ones.
