Do you have trouble accepting a compliment, when you think it might be overstated?

A couple of days ago, someone I know and trust told me that she thought I had a "massive intellect". And really, this isn't bragging, that's what she said, and I had problems accepting this from her, because I really *Really* think she's exaggerating to make a point.

When I hear those words together, "Massive Intellect", I automatically think of *Geniuses* like Einstein or Stephen Hawking. I don't think of lonely old farts like me puttering around on Yahoo Answers, and just hanging in there to get by. And I told her this.

Her response was..."Well, if you had more fair breaks in life and more resources....would you at least admit that it's *possible* that this could be true?"

I really couldn't say no to *that* without seeming unfair and insulting.

But...if *anyone* had more fair breaks in life, more resources, it would be possible...And Dr. Hawking is confined to a wheelchair from ALS. He didn't get fair breaks.

See what I mean? What do I do? Do I accept this?

ACCEPT IT! For goodness sakes Brad she isn't the only one who thinks well of you! You don't think as much of yourself as you should. And as your friend I can't allow you to call yourself an ''old fart puttering around on answers''. You shouldn't make light of yourself like that. You can really help people on here! I know you certainly helped me. (Remember the first question of mine you answered? Well you probably don't but I do and you really made a difference) Nobody usually thinks they are making a difference but they usually are. That's how you start...helping people out no matter how small the act may seem they add up and they matter to the people you helped. And I would totally agree with her. Everything I have ever talked about you always know at least a little about. So accept it. She isn't lying and she isn't wrong.
