Male grooming on the rise
The trend for male grooming has grown hugely over the last few years. Not so long ago most men would have laughed at the idea of having a ‘beauty’ routine or doing any more for their skin than a quick wash and a shave in the mornings. But things are starting to change fast.
Thanks to so many high profile male celebrities who are now admitting that they use beauty products to keep themselves looking good, more and more men are beginning to accept that they too could stand to benefit from a little bit of pampering. In the last seven years the male grooming industry has grown by 800 per cent. Men who might previously have laughed at the idea of using moisturiser or having a facial are deciding it's time to give it a go.
The stigma attached to men paying too much attention to their appearance is shifting thanks to popular celebrities like David Beckham putting their names behind these products and openly admitting that they use them regularly. The fact that these celebrities are not just actors or models but also footballers and sports stars makes it more accessible to a lot of men who look up to them and think that if it's ok for their favourite footballers to do it, it's ok for them too.
Since men have started shopping around for skin products, the range of what’s available has grown and grown. Where once men’s products might have included a bit of shaving gel, aftershave and deodorant, brands like Dermalogica and Nickel are now making as wide a range of creams and potions as many women’s cosmetic companies. Anti-wrinkle or eye creams, pre and post shave oils and even everyday makeup developed especially for men are becoming more and more popular.
