The Bible is being classified as non-fiction now. What next?
Amazon and many other sites I'm sure classifies the Bible as non-fiction. It's completely ridiculous! What's next the Odyssey? The Iliad? The Divine Comedy? What are you opinions on this insanity?
@ Cslewisville- the books I mentioned above are also very historic books yet they are classified as poetry. I just think that a book that has stories about being able to part a sea, a giant flood covering the entire earth, and a guy named Jonah being able to live in a whale for three days should be classified as fiction.
@ Bill C - no offense intended, but if the Bible is meant to be taken as fact then it clearly says me and you are both bound for Hell.
Fiction is fiction. The Bible contains fiction, yes, but it also contains historically verifiable events, which are reported as history (I'm speaking of Old Testament events that happened less than 3500 years ago and line up with secular history).
Someone's analysis of the Odyssey, Illiad, Divine Comedy are all considered non-fiction, because they represent an analysis of a fictional work.
Books that contain instructions about life are not classified as fiction, either.
There is just too much involved with the Bible to classify it as fictional. That's they way the scholars look at it.
And, considering the contents of the dead sea scrolls that substantiate much of the contents of the Bible, I don't blame them for not classifying it as fiction.
