Types of oil and its effects
When an oil spill occurs, there are several factors that determine the impact of the spill on the environment. The most important of all is the type of oil spilled. There are four different types of oil, ie, light, volatile oils, non-sticky oils, heavy oils, sticky, and oils nonfluid, causing adverse effects on the environment when spilled.
• Oils: These light, volatile oil types are very volatile and very fluid. They have a strong smell, high evaporation rate, and high concentrations of toxic compounds that are soluble.
