Get Your Fix of Ping-Pong History Here
Table tennis has pretty much the same rules as regular tennis. If you spent a lot of time watching sports on TV, then it is quite probable that you have watched at least a couple of table tennis games.
Unlike the full version game of tennis, table tennis, or what is commonly known as ping-pong, is played on a wooden table that is normally green in color, but occasionally blue. Instead of using full-size tennis rackets to play the game, small paddles with surfaces made out of rubber are used to bat a small plastic ball back and forth across the table just like tennis.
Some of the reasons that table tennis has become so popular, is because it is very easy to play and it is very fun, but those aren't the only reasons, it also takes very little room to set up and play. The space requirements for small, as you can set one up your garage, which is a big advantage over regular tennis.
Another added benefit is that you don't have to buy a bunch of expensive equipment just to play table tennis. You only need to fork over a little bit of cost for a table, but when you think about the price of playing other sports you will see that it isn't that great. After you have the table all you need is a set of paddles and some balls and you're ready to go.
Some Events in the History of Table Tennis
It was in the late 1880s that table tennis first started. It began by some affluent Victorians from England who were looking for something that they could play inside. These affluent Englanders came up with the idea from watching tennis, and started out by making some paddles on the lids of some cigarette boxes and a ball made of twine. They just used a normal table for a table and the craze began.
At the turn-of-the-century, table tennis was growing and popularity fairly rapidly, and people who are making tables started to vastly improve their design and manufacture them for sale. Not only did they make improvements in the tables but they made improvements in the paddles and balls as well. They now manufactured the paddles with rubber on them and the balls were made from a celluloid material that gave them a rounder shape and made it so they bounced better.
As more manufacturers started to develop the gameplaying equipment, it became available for more and more people to start playing the game. The first ever table tennis tournament was in the year 1902, and by the year 1921, the Association for table tennis was started in England. It wasn't long after that before there was a world championship tournament which was played in a great country and in England as well.
Through the years, the game has grown a life of it's own and become a phenomenon that the entire human race loves. Many homes throughout the earth love the accessibility of having a table in their own house.~With the test of time, the game has become a global craze that has survived generations. It has become a standing pasttime for friends and family to love and enjoy as well a burning craze for those who love to compete.} All of this adds up to a lot of fun time with friends and family and a good reason to get together and fellowship.
