Is there a reason to leave the woods headcovers on during a golf round.?
Anybody wondered about that?. Also the putter. Why don't just leaving them at home.
There are a few reasons, mostly just from personal preference (they don't apply to everyone):
1. Let's say you hook the crap out of your drive. Fuming, you slam the headcover-less offender in the bag, inadvertently bouncing it off your 4 iron. The next hole, you see a nice dent on the crown of your driver- it's theoretically possible, since most driver crowns are in the .04mm thickness.
2. Noise factor. Some people just can't stand the sound of the clubs tinking around. I personally don't get this, but I've played with a few people like that.
3. Always cover the putter- that club takes care of you (most days, anyway), you should take care of it.
Headcovers came into existence in the days of persimmon drivers. They were pretty soft, and it didn't take much to dent, ding and nick them up. But you're right, from one point of view. If you don't want to use them, you aren't obligated. It just depends on how you feel about it.
