Does lengthening a putter make much difference to performance?
Just got a new Scotty Cameron Studio Select and wondered if lenthening it 2 inches would make it feel 'dead'. I didnt realise when I bought the putter that it is only 32 inches long. It was listed as 34 on ebay so I have been slightly ripped off by an untrustworthy seller! I have also heard that if I lenthen the putter it changes the swingweight but I dont really understand what this means! Thankyou
Imagine holdind a sledgehammer by the handle. If you hold it way out on the end, it is much heavier than holding it on the handle closer to the head. Same thing with golf clubs. That's swingweight in a nutshell.
It will make a difference, because the clubhead will be going faster with the longer putter if you swing the same speed as the shorter one. However, you will have to put more effort into swinging the "heavier", longer putter.
