What is classified as a pitching wedge and what as a sand wedge?
I bought a set of irons that didn't come with wedges (probably not a great idea, but I got a set of Mizuno MP-30s for $100). I'm trying to buy Mizuno wedges separately (MP-T) series, which I think will work fine. I got a bounce wedge 53-8. Don't know exactly what that means. What type of measurements classify pitching wedges and what classifies sand wedges? The above numbers talked about degrees and lie, which I don't fully understand.
48 degrees is the standard loft angle for a stock PW. Wedges usually increase their lofts in increments of 4 degrees. A stock Gap Wedge is 52 degrees, 56 for sand, and 60 degrees for a "lob" wedge. Companies are making 64 degree wedges now too.
