Selecting A King Size Bed - Points To Be Aware
Thinking about purchasing a king sized bed? Make sure you have the mattress before you purchase your sheets. Most people aren't of aware of this, but there are three different sizes of king size beds! And each style measures different than the others. So before spending your money on new sheets or a new frame, learn about the different types. You might have a standard king, a california king mattresses, or maybe a European king size bed.
A standard king size bed measures 76 inches in width by 80 inches long. You will notice these sheets most prevalent and they must be clearly indicated as standard 76 x 80. I often suggest that you spend some time and measure the mattress yourself. In this way you can make sure that your dimensions are in fact 76 x 80. You also should check out if your bed mattress has a topper, or if you use a mattress pad. These can increase the depth and may need you to buy fitted liners otherwise you may find your sheets frequently coming off the border while you are asleep.
A california king bed in a bag will typically be more narrow as compared to a standard king, but it will be longer. The usual size is 84 inches in length by 72 inches in width, or +- 4 inches from the standard size. The Cal King is perfect for two conditions. One is if you have a more narrow area but still like the extra space of a king bed. The other scenario is for taller folks, as this bed is perfect for those tall folks. Covers for this type bed are labeled "California King", but you must always verify the measurements on the packaging. As stated before, make sure to personally measure the width, length, and depth of your bed.
You need to also know that each style has different names that people or manufacturers may refer to them by. A standard is sometimes called an eastern king. california king duvet cover are sometimes called western type king bed.
Lastly, and I can't reinforce this enough, always make sure to verify the measurements of your bed. Get hold of the tape measurer and put it to use. It will save you a lot of frustration at the store!
