Too Many Gadgets For One Car

I've only been driving for a few years and I do really like my car. Its got a good few years under its belt and miles on the clock, but it does all the things I want it to. This is namely transport me from A to B and occasionally keep the rain off my head. I get no end of mocking from my mates however as their cars are a lot newer and have more gadgets than the inspector himself. I'll admit that some developments can be useful, but for the most part they are a waste of space and cause more aggro than they save. Lets take look at some of the reasons why my car is going to stay tech-light

1.) More things to go wrong. I've lost count of the number of times I've had to rescue my friend after his hydraulic suspension system went AWOL on the highway. Or having to make excuses for a another friend who always arrives late for gatherings after his sat nav starts speaking French. At the end of the day, limiting the levels of tech in your car will reduce the potential for things to go wrong and you're drive (and life) will be a happier experience

2.) Over dependence. Ask your granddad how he managed to get around in his old Ford Cortina and he'll tell you that he only had the position of the sun to guide him and a dipping stick to work out how much petrol he had left. And yet, he'll also tell you that he never got lost and never ran out of petrol. He may be stretching the truth a little, but I would put money on the fact a higher percentage of road users run into problems such as these nowadays. This tend to be the case because handing over your faith to a sat nav system that claims to hold 45 million road in its data center is great in principle, but not so great when it delivers you a location 100 miles from your home just because you happen to share the same road name.

3.) Theft. You may think I'm taking a negative angle, but the way I see it, the less technology you have in your car, the less attractive your car becomes to thieves. Criminals like luxuries just like the rest of us and don't want to have to nick a car without some climate control or have to put up with a dodgy sound system. It's for these reasons, as well a few other perhaps, that more expensive and tech-heavy cars get stolen or broken into more often. This kind of decision can backfire however, when the sat nav guides them to nearest police station by accident and the central locking wont let them out of the car.
