What is an Alaska Cruise like?
My family and I are interested in going on an Alaska cruise next July and was wondering what it was like? We saw that the average temperature for July is in the mid to low 60's. We don't expect for it to be a bathing suit and beach towel vacation, but we were just wondering what you do at the various ports and what you do on the ships since it's a little chilly for swimming etc. Tell me about your Alaskan Cruise!!

I went in July a number of years ago, and the temperature was real hot and sunny every day. I wore shorts the whole time.
I just looked at the present temperature in Anchorage. It is now 50 degrees. Tomorrow it should be 73, and the rest of the week in the 60's. I guess I was lucky. But it just shows you that you need to be prepared for all types of weather.
I have been on many cruises. I think Alaska was the best. It is so different than other cruises. You see some magnificent scenery. While on the ship my main activity was looking at everything we were passing. I didn't want to miss anything.
In port, one day I went to walk on a glacier. For that trip I needed to wear a Winter coat, scarf, hat and gloves, and I still froze. But it was worth it.
On another day I took a sea plane ride thru the glaciers, landed on an island that had only one building- a restaurant that served fresh caught and grilled salmon. My mouth still waters when I think of it. I also saw a bear eating out of their trash can.
One day I took a train ride that went high up into the mountains, on a very winding track and showed us many of the sites where gold prospectors dug.
I walked all through the city of Juneau, looking at the many interesting buildings, parks, totem poles, etc.
And other cities were filled with interesting sites. I didn't need excursions. Just walking up and down the streets was enough.
So you see, you wont get bored. Go, and have a wonderful time. And I do hope you have good weather.
