What technique is used to avoid my trolling lines from getting mixed up.?
When I go Trolling I try to use two rods but most of the time the lines get mixed up. Any ideas on how to avoid that from happening
When trolling you will always set one line longer than the other. One should be right at the end of the prop-wash. Something about the prop-wash causes the fish to strike, either the erratic movement or the visual effect with the bubbles. The other should be around 40-50 yards out. If you have a lure that is running to the side it needs to be adjusted to run straight. If it turns to the right, bend the eye slightly to the left. You can also use outriggers to spread them apart if you're running more than 2 baits or lures. If you're trolling deep you can use the planers to get it down deeper. The way mine are usually set up is one in the wash, about 20-30 yards behind the boat, the other 40-50 yards out. Then all you need to watch is your turns and your speed. Don't turn too sharp, but it the distance is staggered, it should still be ok. I troll between 5 and 10 mph, depending on what fish I'm targeting and the water/weather conditions.
