What is the best type of side gate for security, wood or wrought iron?
I need to put a side gate up on the side of the house. I want to stop anyone getting access to the back garden. I prefer the look of a wrought iron gate but I guess a solid wood one would be more suitable - is this correct. Also what sort of lock/latch should I use, & should I fit a spring that shuts the gate automatically? What about a keypad lock instead of a key one? Any other suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you.
Topcat; What I always preferred, in that situation, was a solid wooden gate with a mortice lock and internal bolts for night time.
Affix a " No Entry " sign to the outside. Then apply a generous coat of Anti Climbing Paint along the top. That stuff can seriously spoil their day! 
Fit a, not too bright, outside light for night time illumination ~ Plug in Timer never forgets ~ and leave a big Dog bowl of fresh water in view in the back.
The idea is not to prevent the SAS storming ye back garden. Ye couldn't. But, a few little things will make 'next door' seem a better bet for the chancer.
